WHAT HAPPENS IF MY EMAIL HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN A DATA BREACH?

Typically, when your email has been involved in a data breach, it means that the security of your account has been compromised. There is a lot of sensitive information linked to your email address and online accounts, including login credentials (such as passwords), credit card details and other personal information.

If hackers gain access to your email and associated passwords, they can open a doorway to any other number of devices and accounts that you own. They can use your email to reset other account passwords, gain access to credit information, or even take ownership of or delete accounts such as social media profiles.

WHAT CAN I DO IF MY EMAIL HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN A DATA BREACH?

If your email address has been identified by Have I Been Pwned as being involved in a data breach, it is recommended that you change your login password for your email address and for the service which was affected by the breach. It is important that you never re-use the same password across multiple websites and accounts. When creating a password, always ensure that it is unique and involves a mix if upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters to make it as strong as possible.
